Why study this program?

The Electrical Engineering program at the University of Alberta prepares you for the design and development of electrical, electronic, and electromagnetic systems, ranging from the devices we use every day, to advanced robotics and instrumentation, to large-scale telecommunications and data storage applications, and more. You will gain hands-on experience working on electrical devices and systems that transmit, distribute, store, control and use electromagnetic energy or electrically coded information.

Specialization Option


As part of this program, you can choose to take a Nanoengineering Option.

Co-op Option

This degree can be taken as a Co-op (co-operative education) program. Through the Co-op program, you will have the opportunity to complete paid, supervised work terms throughout your degree. Co-op programs are a great way to challenge yourself, gain relevant work experience, and make connections to industry before you graduate!

Most co-op programs include five work terms lasting four months each, in addition to the usual eight terms (four years) of full-time study. Therefore, co-op programs require five years to complete.

Fees, Funding and Scholarships at University of Alberta

The University of Alberta offers a wide ranges of scholarships to international students. You will be evaluated for these scholarships when you apply for admission. Your eligibility will be based on your high school admission average at the time of your admission offer. We'll assess you for a match to the following three scholarships. If you are eligible for an admission-based scholarship we will contact you directly!

  • International Admissions Scholarship-up to $5,000
  • Regional Excellence Scholarship- up to $5,000
  • Gold Standard Scholarship- up to $6,000

You can also apply for scholarships based on your application, including the President’s International Distinction Scholarship, awarded annually to 25 international students, worth up to CAN $120,000.
